Uki-bukuro (Float)

This is a lifebelt for use in crossing water, "made like peaches side by side." The length is about 2 feet 3 inches, the circumference of the largest one in the centre is about 8.5 inches; it has strings on both sides. One who can swim well wears it around the waist; one who cannot swim puts it around the breast. When mounted carry it around the horse in the place of the saddle band, or put it upon the shiode (crupper).
