Yari (spear)

It is advantageous to use a spear with which you are accustomed, and which you like, and one with a straight blade is recommended by experienced persons. When on horseback carry it resting upon the yari-hasame (spear-rest) which is made of iron or copper. The best type of yari-sashi (or yari-hasame) has a hinge in its center so as to let it move freely. It should be worn on the right side.
